8 April 2011

Large amounts of unlicensed medicines have been seized by Department of Health authorities during a search of a house in Glengormley.

A male was spoken with by department officers about illegally importing and consequently providing unlicensed impotence medicines via the internet.

The 47-year-old was likewise questioned about other medicine offences.

He will now be the subject of a report to the Service.

The search was performed by the department's Medicines Regulatory Group.

Its senior enforcement workplace, Peter Moore, stated: "It is essential that we get the message across that unlicensed medications can be unsafe.

"These kinds of items being sold, generally online, have gone through no quality assurance and there can be no guarantee about their safety.

"You merely do not understand what you are taking or the conditions these products were made in. More notably, you do not understand the effect drugs like this may have on your health."
